Why there are no real “rules” when it comes to business

I’ve never liked following rules, which is probably why I left school at the age of 16 and quit multiple jobs for the next few yeard after - before I finally realized that I was supposed to work for MYSELF instead. But even as I ventured into entrepreneurship, I noticed there were still rules people would tell me to follow. With my modeling business, there were rules around how to act and speak.  With my cupcake business, there were rules around food safety (okay, so I get this one!). With my couponing business, there were rules around who I could contact and how I should structure things. With my coaching business (when it first started), there were rules around what my website needed to look like and how I needed to sell and make money. In fact, the rules are still pretty much the same in all of these industries today. And this is where I say - FUCK THE RULES! (Except food safety, that one I’ll let slide.) I learned early on in my coaching business that rules were a plenty and that I hated following them. I remember lying to you for months, pretending to be someone I just wasn’t, speaking in a way I don’t normally speak, and for what? To get you to like me?  UH NO. When I did that, I had the WRONG people liking me. People I didn’t want to like me. People I certainly didn’t like myself. People that had crazy expectations of me.
