I truly believe that we are all good people. We all have a desire to do good in the world, we all want to make a difference in some way, and we all want to help others. Ask anyone if one of their goals is to do good, make a difference, and/or help others, and pretty much every single person will say YES. Because that’s what good people want to do. I remember reading a book a few years ago, and in it was the message that everyone is selfish, and I agree - to an extent. We ALL are looking out for ourselves first, we all tend to make decisions based on how they will affect US, and we’re all looking for ways to make OUR lives better. I think it’s important to be selfish, frankly. I think that if you’re NOT selfish, you end up becoming resentful to those around you. And so, selfishness is not really something I see as a negative. That being said, I think it’s also important to acknowledge that just because we’re all pretty damn selfish, that doesn’t mean we don’t care about others. It doesn’t at all mean that we’ll push and shove and screw over other people so that we can get what we want. It just means that we’re sticking up for ourselves Doing what we know would make US happy Making sure that WE are taken care of and looked after Because when we feel good, we want to share that feeling and make others feel good.
