WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO STOP TRYING TO PLEASE EVERYONE?
One big, HUGE, mistake that I made with my business was trying to make everyone happy.
To do this, I had to pretend to be someone I’m not, just so everyone would like me.
And I did this for YEARS. Too many years to even count.
In fact, I probably did this for most of my life.
Even though I said I didn’t care what people thought of me, I really did. And deep down, I wanted everyone to like me. I wanted everyone to see how perfect I was.
Except that’s not what happened.
Sure, I did end up with many people following me, many “fans” (I hate that word) that looked up to me, many people that wanted to BE me –
But the problem was that they were seeing someone completely different from the REAL me.
I said, did, even WORE what I thought other people expected and wanted from me with the hopes that they would like me.
I didn’t speak my mind, I didn’t say what I wanted to say, I didn’t even stand up for myself when the situation called for it.
A year ago I had what many would consider the perfect life
A booming business
Healthy, happy kids
A great relationship with my husband
Our cute little house
An awesome area to live in
Lots of people following me and looking up to me
Money in the bank
There was just one problem - I wasn’t happy.
I wasn’t happy because I wasn’t able to be MYSELF. To be the person I was BORN to be.
My mindset was all kinds of fucked up, where I really did believe that in order to be successful and make money, I had to pretend as though my life was perfect. I also had to pretend that I liked people I didn’t. I told myself I had to act a certain way and I had to watch my usual potty-mouth because if I didn’t, people would think I was unprofessional.
It wasn’t until about 6 months ago when a close friend of mine joined my Facebook group and was reading my posts reached out to me and asked “why do you sound so different in your posts than you do offline?“.
I told her I didn’t know (except I did - I knew it was because I wanted to present myself a certain way so people would LIKE me), we talked about it for a little while and then I decided to say FUCK IT ALL and start acting how I REALLY act in my day to day life.
It was that same day where I posted on my personal Facebook profile that I was lying to everyone (because I put on this “I want everyone to like me” front offline as well as online, but it was just more noticeable online to my offline peeps). I told them I was sorry I lied about who I REALLY was and that from that moment forward, I was going to be the REAL me, both online AND off.
Because the real me is so much cooler than the fake me.
The real me doesn’t give a FUCK what you think of her
The real me trusts her gut and takes action based on that
The real me is generous with her time and money
The real me loves gothic-punk style and isn’t afraid to show some cleavage
The real me says what she wants, when she wants, because she is called to
The real me is obsessed with giving animals a voice and is one of “those” vegans that WILL tell you you’re stupid for eating animal products (because it’s not only cruel, but they’re EXTREMELY bad for you)
The real me doesn’t care about your opinion and only cares about her own
The real me speaks her mind, whether you like it or not
I LOVE the real me. And by stepping up and BEING the real me, by showing up every day as MYSELF and no one else, this has EXPLODED my business.
I have had dozens of women reach out to me and tell me they love the real me, too.
I’ve signed on new high-end clients.
I’ve made multiple-six figures many times over.
I’ve been told I made an impact in someone’s life and that they, too, are now showing up as THEIR authentic self and profiting from that.
Because here’s the truth: When you put yourself out there, the REAL you, and you do so unapologetically, without giving a shit whether or not you will offend someone or piss them off, THAT is when things REALLY start to blow up.
That’s when you make a difference
That’s when you actually ENJOY your work
That’s when you see a huge spike in income
That’s when you can be more creative
That’s when you attract the RIGHT people to you and your business
You do not need to make ANYONE happy except yourself and your IDEAL clients and community. No one else.
Focus on serving them and yourself and I PROMISE you that things will start to shift DRAMATICALLY in the best possible way.
