The thing that really pisses me off in the online coaching industry is the bullshit rule that you have to do things a certain way in order to be successful.
You don’t have to do webinars.
You don’t have to do sales calls.
You don’t have to write 1,000 word blog posts every day.
You don’t have to use Facebook ads.
You don’t have to hire a copywriter.
You don’t have to do market research or nail down your ICA or determine your “niche”. (LOL!)
You don’t have to use Twitter and Pinterest and Instagram and every other social media platform ever created, so that you can “be everywhere”.
You don’t any of it. Nada. Except for show the fuck up and do the damn thing. The THING being, of course, sharing your message with the world.
Being your own freakin’ self and sharing YOU.
Just the whole CONCEPT of trying to fit yourself into some perfect little entrepreneurial box is maddening, don’t you think?
I bought into this lie for years, doing all kinds of things I thought I HAD to do, but things that didn’t really FEEL good for me.
And I won’t say that it didn’t work, in terms of making money, because it DID.
I made a lot of fucking money ticking all of my boxes and following all the rules.
But after awhile, I didn’t even want it anymore. I’d traded in my SOUL for money. And I felt like a total fucking fraud. How could I be preaching authenticity when I was being fake as fuck, trying to be someone I, deep down, just WASN’T?
Eventually I got pretty tired of the whole charade, and ditched the rules I was told I had to live by in order to be a successful entrepreneur and just did my own thing.
And ooooh did they warn me.
Boy, did they ever try to get me to STOP being me, doing things my way.
They were TERRIFIED for me.
“You’re gonna lose all your followers if you talk like that.”
“No one will ever pay that much just to work with you for 5 weeks.”
“You definitely need to have contracts in place, what if someone tries to sue you?”
“You have to do sales calls; no one is going to pay tens of thousands of dollars to work with you, without talking to you first.”
And each time, I REFUSED to budge.
No, I will not stop saying “fuck”.
No, I will not charge pennies to work with me just because that’s all someone has ever paid YOU, so you think that’s all that anyone would ever pay. I’m worth more. So I’m charging more.
No, I don’t want to work with contracts. If someone wants a contract before hiring me as their coach, they don’t trust me. And if they don’t trust me, they shouldn’t hire me. Simple as that. Contracts feel like jail.
No, I refuse to do sales calls. If someone needs to talk to me on the phone before they decide if I’m the coach for them, I’m NOT the coach for them. My clients KNOW in their gut that I’m for them and they’re for me. No sales calls necessary. End of story.
Your niche? That’s you. YOU’RE THE NICHE, BABY!
Your ICA? That’s you a few years ago.
Your pricing? Whatever your gut tells you is the right price.
What your clients will pay for? You, if they resonate with your energy. So SHOW THE FUCK UP and be you. You don’t need to ask them what kind of course they want. Create what YOU want and they will buy, because they’ve already bought you.
Sometimes I think we actually WANT to make things complicated.
“Surely it can’t be THAT easy, let me pile all of this busy work on my plate to then be deemed worthy of making money!”
But the truth is, it really CAN be that easy. You really CAN make money just being YOU, and you can make a lot of it.
You’ll have to do the WORK, of course. The work being: show up, share what’s on your heart, sell what you’re passionate about, and engage with your tribe.
In other words: Be your SELF and the right people will resonate.
If someone doesn’t like you, or the way you do things, cool, they’re not one of your peeps. Release ’em. Filter filter filter.
No matter what you do or say, the RIGHT people will resonate with it, and you, always. If they don’t, they’re the wrong people.
So there ya go.
You can ignore all the posts, all the coaches, all the YouTube videos, that tell you in order to be successful, you have to follow their FORMULA TO SUCCESS (the one that makes you wanna claw your eyes out just thinking about).
