Stop living in the past. Stop giving yourself crap for all the shit you’ve done before that didn’t serve you.
It’s over.
Done.
Finished.
Hasn’t it been hanging over you long enough? Aren’t you ready to just let it all go?
I know you’re feeling beat up right now.
Torn up.
Not enough.
Worried about everything.
Scared of failure.
Unsure of yourself.
Maybe even pissed off at your past decisions.
You’re getting to the end of the day wondering what the fuck you actually DID? How is the day over already when the only things you got accomplished were a blog post, watching Ellen for an hour, and journaling about that new house you wanna buy.
And you see all of these other people who do what you do, and they’re having SO MUCH success (or at least, that’s how it APPEARS, because that is what they SHOW online), and you’re so MAD at yourself for wasting time, for screwing up again, for being so damn lazy and not doing the work to have the same success that you WANT to badly!
So you snap out of it.
You open up your notebook and you make a plan. This time will be different. This time you will actually do what you say you’re going to do. No more messing around; you’ve had ENOUGH! You make a plan for the week, the day, the month, whatever –
You stick it in your calendar.
Everything is perfect.
You feel so accomplished.
You tackle today’s tasks, and tomorrow’s, too. It’s amazing!! You are loving it. You get everything done the third day, the fourth day, and on the fifth day, you only miss 2 things, and you see that as a success. You’ve done so much this week. Why didn’t you do this before? This is so easy!
On day 6 and 7 it’s the weekend, so you slack off a little, get half of your lists done for each day, and are proud of yourself because the weekend before you didn’t do a damn thing.
Monday comes around and OMG you are so tired. You did SO much work last week. You got a ton done. Your body must be telling you it needs a break. You deserve it for all of that hard work you did last week and all of the stuff you got accomplished. One day off isn’t going to hurt you.
So you relax. Watch TV. Eat popcorn. Drink tea. Go for a walk. Buy some new bedding from Pottery Barn.
And you feel SO good. It was so nice to relax, you should do that more often. Like maybe tomorrow, too. 2 days off isn’t such a big deal. And it’s not like you are completely off.. you’re still posting on Facebook and Snapchat. You’re still working! You’re still getting stuff done!
Except –
You’re not. You’re slacking. You’re making excuses. You’re “listening to your body” (dude, your body is ALWAYS going to tell you that it wants you to relax! Your body is a hippy.) and going with what it tells you.
And this is EXACTLY why you, eventually, over time, come back to that feeling of being pissed off at yourself, frustrated, and determined to prove that THIS is the time that you say “enough is enough”, and you finally do what needs to be done to have the success you have.
Aren’t you sick of that same shitty cycle repeating over and over again in your life?
Aren’t you ready for it to STOP?
Aren’t you gonna explode from the frustration of it all?
Before it gets that far, I want to encourage you with this:
FORGIVENESS.
Forgive yourself for past mistakes.
Forgive yourself for not knowing.
Forgive yourself for not doing what needs to be done.
Forgive yourself for sabbotaging.
Forgive yourself for “time wasted”.
You can’t move forward if you can’t first let go.
Let go of the past. Allow it to disappear from your life. You don’t need it any longer. The past is the past and that’s where it needs to stay.
You don’t need to constantly be looking behind you when you’re moving forward. And you’re ALWAYS moving forward. Focus on the NOW and focus on the future.
The future IS now, in fact.
The future is today.
And you get to decide how it looks.
How do you want your future to look, Deana?
Here’s a fun assignment for you to do today (get out that journal!!).. answer the following questions, listing off as many answers as you can think of. I’ll share my own responses as well, to give you an example (don’t use my answers unless they resonate with you!) –
