I’ve been thinking a lot about how my life is so different from how it was just a few short years ago.
Everything has changed.
Everything has improved.
Everything is better.
And I’ve just been reflecting back on how quickly that all shifted for me.
Not very long ago, I used to be of the mindset that money was to be saved, and held on to for dear life, and that you needed to try to get a deal on everything, otherwise you were a sucker.
I remember doing an interview one day for the local newspaper (about my frugal living/couponing website), and they asked me if I would still clip coupons if I won the lottery.
And I said YES.
Except, that would never happen because I don’t play the lottery. But also, how the hell would I know just how exactly I would respond if I ever somehow came into a large sum of money?
But because all I knew at the time was frugality and stingy-ness, it’s no surprise I said that I would totally continue being an extreme couponer if all of a sudden a wave of money fell into my lap.
It’s funny how things can change, isn’t it?
It was just over 2 years ago that I stopped clipping coupons (I was still super frugal, though!). I’d switched to eating a plant-based diet and was eliminating shitty foods, and also chemical-ridden household & personal products, from my life.
And can you guess what the majority of my coupons were for?
Yep.
So, after 7 years of being an avid couponer, I gave up my title of “Queen of Coupons” and pitched my coupon binders (that’s right, I had not 1, but 2 binders full of coupons) into the trash.
I was done.
And it felt so good.
And so right.
And like such a RELIEF.
For almost a year I’d been living a complete lie.
I was keeping up with the website because it was making amazing money (it was one of the top couponing/frugal living sites for Canadians) and it was like I felt OBLIGATED to keep it going. I was writing about all of the deals on cheese and meat and eggs, and Clorox cleaners and Tide laundry soap and it made me sick because I HATED those products.
I felt horrible for promoting something as a “good deal” that I didn’t believe should be purchased at all because of how horrible it is for you.
I couldn’t take it anymore.
It was that day I gave up couponing for good, and moved on to my next business idea (given to me by readers of my couponing blog, surprisingly): BUSINESS COACH.
I hired my own mentor straight away, because although I knew a lot about business and making money online, I knew NOTHING about coaching. It was one of the best investments I’ve ever made in myself.
Over the 2+ years I’ve been in this industry, I’ve learned a lot about myself and about how horribly I’d been living.
I had been brainwashed into thinking you need to hoard money in order to feel safe.
I truly believed that rich people were greedy and selfish assholes.
I was led to believe that the things I always wanted in life were unattainable.
I had to completely re-program my mind –
For success
For abundance
For peace
For happiness
For joy
For love
For health
For…
Well, for everything really.
Almost everything in my head was fucked up.
And I needed to do some serious work on turning everything around. Which I did, and which I continue (and will continue) to do every day. Because I know that it all starts inside of me.
What I think, what I believe, I can achieve.
And it really is as simple as that.
So many people think the answers are outside of them, when really, everything you need to know is inside. I think it’s a great thing to have people in your life that hold you accountable to your vision, to ensure you do what you say you’re going to do, to support you in times of uncertainty and even despair..
But those people are not here to give you ANSWERS.
You have the answers inside. Tune in. Go within. Listen to your soul. What is it saying? What is it guiding you to do next? What energetically FEELS right?
Trust that! I did, when I left the couponing and frugal living world and stepped into a world of abundance, and now, my life has blossomed into something I’m excited about. Something I’m proud of. Something I’m so grateful for.
In just over 2 years, I’ve –
- Hired 4 full-time team members
- Worked with hundreds of entrepreneurs to grow their business
- Changed my business name
- Received close to $1 million in CASH
- Signed on dozens of private, high-end clients
- Added 10,000+ people to my email list
- Grown a Facebook group to over 6,000 people
- Travelled to over 2 dozen places around the world
- Flown business class multiple times
- Worked with super high-level mentors (spent close to $100,000 on mentorship alone)
- Bought my dream Cadillac Escalade and paid for it in full
I discovered how to get paid to be ME.
I now get paid to show up every day and talk about what I want. Business. I get to post on Facebook and send emails and take stupid videos on Snapchat, talking about something that is FUN to me, which is building an empire and making incredible money online while having a seriously huge impact in the world.
I don’t have to EVER “figure out” what to say.
I don’t need a content calendar (ugh, no thanks!).
I don’t have to worry about sounding “professional”.
I’m just ME. All day, every day. I’m able to talk about what I love, do what I love, be who I am, say what I think, share what I want, and THIS is my life.
This is the life I’ve been dreaming of for so many years and I’m now experiencing it in a way I never thought possible, because I believed the bullshit lies around success (specifically that if you want to make a lot of money, you had to miss out on life).
I’ve realized that the more FUN I have in my life, the more money I make.
The more I talk about whatever I want, as opposed to what I think people want me to talk about, the more money I make.
The more I only do the work that feels good, the less it feels like work, which means I have more fun, and the more fun I have, the more money I make.
All of that to say –
You don’t need to do the things you don’t want to do. You can be successful, impact others, and make amazing money by showing up every day and being YOU and by only doing the things you love and that TRULY light you up.
You weren’t born to live a mediocre life, slogging away, doing shit you hate.
You were born to have an impact in the world, a HUGE one, and you were born to have fun, enjoy life, share your gifts, and get paid exceptionally well for that.
So let’s agree that you’ll stop the struggle today, okay?
Promise me right now that you’ll commit to doing what it takes to live your life in a way that makes you excited to get out of bed in the morning.
Promise yourself that you will be true to you, to your mission in life, and to your soul’s work that you KNOW you were born to do.
