IT’S ABOUT THE VIBE OF THE THING, NOT THE THING ITSELF

Im sitting in a Starbucks right now; I drove here after being disturbed during journaling more times than one at home. I need my alone time when I’m journaling - I need you to not look at or talk to me, and I definitely don’t need to have you constantly asking me what you can eat for breakfast.

Sigh. Kids. I thought they were supposed to be independent at this age. You mean I still have to make them breakfast? And more importantly: Why aren’t they sleeping in on a weekend?

Anyway.

I came to Starbucks, and I came to this one in particular because i’s the VIP of all Starbucks. There is only one Starbucks Reserve in my area, and even though it’s a bit out of the way, and there are other places closer to me, I always come here because of the vibe.

When you go to Starbucks, you order what you want, and then you either go and sit down, or you get your order to go. Here, it’s as though you’re visiting someone’s home. Someone that treats you like family, but that leaves you alone when you are clearly in the zone.

They are always coming around with free snacks (which I have to politely decline due to my desire to not consume animals, but I still appreciate the thought). They are always smiling - seriously ALWAYS smiling - everyone. They all yell “welcome!” and “good morning!” when people walk in and “thank you!” and “have a great day!” when people walk out.

I feel like I’m visiting a bunch of my friends every time I come here.

The vibe of Starbucks Reserve is MUCH better quality than the vibe of a traditional Starbucks.

A “regular” Starbucks is full of teenagers working on their homework. Good for them, but that’s not who I want to be around when I’m blowing up this company (and simultaneously growing another one on the side). I want to be surrounded by other entrepreneurs; other boss ladies (and dudes) getting shit done.

The click, click, click of the keyboard gets me off.

Watching them stare intently at their laptop screen is captivating.

Knowing that we’re all getting our hustle on is just what I need.

I don’t come here for the coffee. Starbucks coffee is gross. Even the tea ain’t all that great (which is what I get, since I can’t handle much caffeine anyway). I come here for the vibe.

And this morning I got to thinking…

This is EXACTLY what I teach my clients around sales.

You’re not selling the thing - the program, the course, the event, the workshop…

You’re selling you. And even more than that - you’re selling your ENERGY behind the thing.

If you’re high-vibe, excited, and passionate when you’re selling ANYTHING, people will buy it, because people buy energy. They buy the vibe. Not the “thing”.

Take a look at what you’re selling right now. Look at HOW you’re selling it.

Are you just posting a link on Facebook?

Are you just saying “it’s here!” and telling people where to sign up?

Are you not really promoting/selling it much at all?

Are you talking about it passively?

If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions, then you’re gonna be slacking when it comes to sales. And by the end of your launch period, when you’re frustrated that you only have a few (if any) sales, you’ll know why.

You were selling the thing, not the vibe of the thing. Not the energy behind the thing.

And that’s your mistake.

You’ve gotta sell the energy, because that’s what people want.

If they’re turned off by the energy of the thing that’s for sale, then they’ll walk away from the offer, no matter how amazing it is and how much they actually want and/or need it.

I’ve personally walked away from coaches/programs that I was initially interested in, because, even though what they were selling was just what I wamted, the way in which they were selling it was a turn off to me. They weren’t fully into it and you could tell that they were just selling for the sake of selling, or because they wanted to make money.

They weren’t selling themselves. Their energy. The vibe of the thing.

This happens over and over, every single day. I see it and just shake my head. It’s unfortunate because I’m sure that if you just put a bit more energy into the thing you’re selling, you’d have no problem hearing people say YES!

It’s not at all about what the offer is or what’s included. It’s definitely not about the price of how great of a deal it is.

The energy. The vibe. That’s what they want; and when you can sell from that place, you’ll start to receive more easily
