It’s hard to believe that less than 2 years ago, I was a cheap, frugal, extreme couponer that held the purse strings tight.
I used to think being frugal was smart. Spend less, save more, and buy better quality items.
Buying better quality items did, and does make sense, but that often meant spending hours, if not days or months, agonizing over the “big” purchase.
The Dyson vaccuum
The Sealy mattress
The Webber barbecue
Sure, they are amazing brands and I love them, but when I made the big purchase, even though I was excited at first, I’d eventually beat myself up about it.
Who am I to buy such nice things?
I should be saving my money, not spending it.
The cheaper brands would have been just fine.
I’m so stupid for spending that much money on a vacuum when I could have bought one for only $100!
Every time I thought I was doing something SMART by purchasing better quality, I always ended up giving myself shit for spending the cash.
I grew up in a household that didn’t have a lot of money. We weren’t poor, but it felt like it sometimes. We were provided for, but we rarely got more than what we needed.
It was embarrassing to go to school wearing the same clothes over and over again (the hand-me-downs or thrift store finds) because we couldn’t afford new ones.
It made me feel like a loser to own the cheapest school supplies and the most boring backpack, while all the other kids in my school seemed to have the BEST stuff.
I’m so grateful to my mom for supporting me and giving me the great childhood that she did, but sometimes I wonder what life would have been like for me had we grown up rich.
One thing is for sure: I definitely would NOT have grown up with that Scrooge-like mindset, hoarding every dollar I received.
When I got into coaching in February 2015, I started working with a Mindset & Marketing coach, because I knew I needed the support around marketing. I wasn’t planing on doing any “mindset work”, though.
I didn’t have the $6,000 to hire her, so I put it on my credit card, hoping it would pay off.
For the first 5 months of our 6 month coaching relationship, she tried many times to get me to do the mindset work, but I refused, saying it was “too weird” for me.
Manifesting? Visualizing? Saying mantras? Are you fucking nuts, you weirdo?!
I truly did think she was a bit crazy and wondered if I’d just wasted $6,000 working with this woman.
I made some sales during the first 5 months we worked together, and I did make some serious progress in my business, but I wasn’t where I really wanted to be. She mentioned the mindset work again.
I told her that, fine, I would try it, just this ONE time, and when I saw that it didn’t actually help me at all, I didn’t want her to talk to me about it again.
She said okay and gave me some homework.
The next week when we got on our call together, I pretty much apologized profusely and told her I couldn’t believe I doubted her.
During just one week of doing solid money mindset work, I’d signed on new clients, made thousands of dollars, created amazing new content, had brilliant ideas for other offers, and actually had FUN doing it.
It was from that moment on that I started doing my money mindset practice every single day.
I did the visualizing
I did the mantras
I did the INTERNAL work
And low and behold, my business BLEW UP.
I was able to sign on new clients with NO trouble.
I was able to sell out offers almost every time.
I was able to generate thousands of dollars every DAY, instead of every MONTH.
Let’s just say things went from okay, to great, to FAN-FUCKING-TASTIC. And I’m only going up from here.
Although the visualizing and mantras were interesting and fun to try, to be honest - they never really worked for me.
What DID work, though, was doing the real internal work –
:: Figuring out what was stopping me from creating more money
:: Getting really clear with myself about what I wanted and why
Doing these things allowed me to –
Generate upwards of $20K+ in just ONE week
Sign on 4 new 1:1 clients in just one DAY
Create new offers constantly
Sell my offers with ease, and never feel salesy
Create content for my community every day
Almost always hear HELL YES from my clients (instead of the dreaded “I can’t afford it”)
My life is COMPLETELY different now that I’ve got the right money mindset and am programmed for SUCCESS.
If I hadn’t worked on my mindset and figured out what was holding me back so I could FIX IT, I wouldn’t be where I am today, which is on my way to $1 Million in sales and loving every minute of my work.
Mindset is the #1 thing holding you back from making the money you want.
If you want your financial situation to change, you need to change things up, and it starts from INSIDE your mind.
Once you do that, NOTHING can stop you!
