For the last week or so, I’ve had some crazy insomnia, or what I THOUGHT was insomnia. Falling asleep was easy, but then I would wake up every few hours, without fail, and just lie there, unable to fall back asleep. I thought it was what I was eating, so I changed my diet up a bit. Didn’t work.I thought it was because my evening routine was chaotic, so I made it more relaxing. Didn’t work.I thought it was because I was sleeping too much, so I tried sleeping less. Didn’t work. It wasn’t until this morning, when I was up at 5am again, after only 4 hours of sleep, that I realized I was waking up because I was EXCITED. Excited to start my dayExcited to work on my businessExcited to unleash my offeringsExcited to speak to my tribeExcited to learn and implementExcited to freakin’ UPLEVEL When I realized that each morning all I thought about when I woke up was my clients and how I could better serve them, my offers and how I could sell more of them, my community and how I could nurture it, my business and how I could streamline it – When I made that realization, it was pretty damn obvious. My body is telling me it’s time to uplevel, and part of that process means sleeping less and working more. I used to think that all I needed to be successful online was amazing content. You know the whole “when you show up, they will find you” type of belief. It took me years to realize that I needed to do more than be amazing and give great value. You can’t just put out fantastic content, give value, show up, be visibile – That’s part of it, yes. But you also have to make sure you actually put yourself IN FRONT of your people. Because no, they will not find you on their own. I don’t care how amazing your content is. If I don’t know who you are, I’m not buying shit from you. Want to get rich? Get famous? Make an impact? Then you need to SHOW UP on purpose. What I mean by that is that you need to do whatever it takes to be in front of as many people as possible, all the time. Yes, numbers matter. The bigger your audience, the bigger your bank account. It’s simple math. We’re so damn lucky to be entrepreneurs in this day and age because we have the powerhouse that is social media. We don’t have to spend tens of thousands of dollars on a 30 second TV ad. Or multiple thousands for an ad in a shitty magazine that end up littering doctor’s offices. You can become a fucking star OVERNIGHT thanks to social media. Yes, you need to have talent. Yes, you need to be amazing at what you do. And yes, you need to consistently get up and grund every day. Here’s something for you to imagine – WHEN YOU GET TO THE PARTY AND EVERYONE’S LIKE “UH, WHO IS SHE?” Dun dun dun. No one knows who you are. Which makes you unapproachable, which leaves you broke. You don’t want to be the person who shows up to a party (online OR offline) only to be completely ignored because no one has a damn clue who you are. Now, I’m not saying that if you’re new to the scene and you start showing up that people will ignore you. There are nice people in the world that will welcome you with open arms. But those open arms don’t translate to fists full of cash. Not right away, anyway. That’s why it’s so important to practice the ART of showing up. When I first started coaching, my initial plan to was to DOMINATE the industry. I wanted to be on every social media platform, in every group, in everyone’s inbox. The goal was to FLOOD their screens with me and my message. Did I do that? In a sense. But I lost steam because I didn’t know how to show up properly. And so, I spent over a year trying to figure out how the hell to show up as ME, and make money from doing so (instead of just giving all my shit away for free and then asking people to hire me).
