The number one issue my clients come to me with is their sales call process. Perhaps this is something you’re struggling with as well. You don’t know how to get people to sign up for a discovery call with you (or clarity call or sales call - whatever you call it). When you DO finally get people on the phone, you feel like you’re about to choke on your words because you’re so nervous. You always end your calls feeling deflated, the potential client says they can’t afford it or they need to “think about it”, and you’re left feeling like a failure. Again. What’s the deal? I want to tell you a story about a client of mine. Let’s call her Sarah. We started working together only 3 weeks ago. She came to me unclear of how to go about putting herself out there in a way that felt authentic and good. You might know what that feels like. I know I’ve been there, too. Staring at your blank computer screen knowing that there’s so much you could do, but clueless about where to begin. Reading other people’s Facebook posts longing to feel inspired, but really just feeling crappy and wondering what they have that you don’t. Why are they experiencing all of this success and I’m not? At the beginning of the month, I always set a financial goal for myself, but this month, I didn’t do it because I was on vacation and, well… just kind of forgot (oops). Early last week I started to get “the doubts”: “This is too hard” “This is too much work” “No one is going to pay my prices” This mindset shit - I teach it, but I am also SO there, in the trenches with you, because I still have my own crap to work on, too. But these days, snapping out of those negative thoughts and turning my negative beliefs around, is SO much easier. I had the doubts for a day or so, and I felt them, but didn’t give in to them. They just went away and I was again filled with GOOD thoughts. Inspiring thoughts. I told the Universe that I wanted, financially, and then something magical happened, VERY soon after my asking… I got a new client! And then another. And then another. 5 days, 3 new high-end coaching clients. Over $25K in client work signed in less than a week. That’s over $40K I’ve made in my coaching business in just 3 months. I want to talk to you about something really important today - working with those you WANT to work with and not those you don’t. I just turned down someone that was willing to invest $7500 for my 3 month program. Why? Because she was not ideal. I didn’t really want to work with this person. One of the benefits of being the boss is choosing who you want to work with. Working with clients that you don’t love and aren’t excited to get on a call with? It sucks. Trust me, I’ve done it, and I’ll never do it again. Remember that it’s not about money. It’s about helping people. If you love helping people, the money will come (and it will come from the right people). So, I didn’t make $7500 today. But I did turn down someone that wasn’t a good fit for my program - which leaves an open spot for someone that is. Someone I WANT to help. Building a business is hard work. If you would have told me a year ago that at this point in my life I would be talking to other women for hours every day and helping them with their businesses (all while getting paid handsomely for it), I would have laughed in your face. But – the joke is on me, because the other day I had 4 hours of client calls and today I have another 4 hours worth, and I get to talk about what I know best - business. Teaching other women how to build thriving online businesses has always been one of my favourite things to do, but I never dreamed I’d be able to do it before I hit 30. I certainly didn’t dream I could have consistent 5-figure months so soon into my coaching business. This just goes to show that when you put passion and determination behind your work, amazing things can happen (and they can happen fast)! Passion and determination weren’t the only things that helped me succeed. Behind the scenes I also had a coach that was showing me the way and cheering me on. Without her help, there is no doubt in my mind that I would NOT be where I am today. Hiring a business coach can be a tricky issue for some women. Maybe you’re one of them.
